Careers
A small remote team building software that people rely on during the hardest and best week of their lives.
What it is like here
Small, remote, asynchronous and written. Decisions get recorded next to the code that implements them, so nobody has to have been in the meeting. Nobody is on call for a pager that goes off because a marketing page was slow.
The work is unusually consequential for its size. A missed alert is not a missed conversion — it is somebody driving to a birth centre later than they should have. That shapes how we review, how we test, and how willing we are to ship something we are not sure about.
How we hire
No whiteboard puzzles, no take-home that takes a weekend, no panel of six. A conversation about work you have actually done, one paid short exercise drawn from something real we are building, and a conversation with someone you would work with every day.
We tell you where you stand at every stage, including when the answer is no. We give feedback if you want it.
The kinds of people we hire in waves
- Product engineers — TypeScript across React Native and Next.js, comfortable owning a feature from schema to screen.
- Backend engineers — NestJS and Postgres, with a real interest in access control and data scoping rather than a tolerance for it.
- Clinical informatics — people who can hold a conversation with a midwife and a database in the same hour.
- Design — accessibility-first product designers who treat WCAG as a floor and a 3am user as the default user.
- Support — the first person a frightened new parent reaches, which is the most important role on this list.
What we look for
Care about the person on the other side of the screen, and the discipline to prove your work is right rather than assert it. We would rather hire someone who writes a test for the edge case than someone who ships twice as fast without one.
You do not need experience in health care. You do need to be willing to learn enough about perinatal care to know when you are out of your depth, and to say so.
Applying
Write to hello@mamavihealth.com with the subject line "Careers". Tell us what you would want to work on here and point us at something you have built or written. A short, specific note beats a long, general one every time.
